Playing on the Defense in the Rose Bowl
I have never had a rose bush. My mom couldn¹t believe it when I told her
this and she told me to go buy a rose bush and I did.
Now, am I in for trouble? Aren¹t they susceptible to black spot, aphids,
mildew and more? Mom told me to choose the right type of rose bush and
giving it the right care that it needs is the common sense approach to
carefree plants. I will plant my rose bush in combination with other plants
to cut down on problems because the best remedy for rose problems is a good
defense.
Keep your roses watered and fed. Don¹t over do the nitrogen. Prune to
allow air circulation especially when it¹s humid. Stop pruning at least 6
weeks before the expected first frost. Mulch around the plant roots. A
mildewed leaf that falls and remains on the ground will send spores to the
rest of the plant. Avoid annual diseases with a preventative spray. Go to
your local garden center and ask them for the right choice for your
beautiful roses.
P.S. Mom also says to put banana peel under rose bush!
